versus Editorial · 21 October 2026
Serbia voted on Sunday 25 October 2026, and on the morning of Monday 26 October the official count put Student List: Students Win first and Aleksandar Vučić: United Serbia second, with no seats allocated yet. At 06:18 UK time on 26 October, versus showed 14 of the 23 predictions in this guide as settled, including Will Vučić's United Serbia win the most seats? (since 04:52 UK time), and 9 as still open after their end date, 23:59 UK time on 25 October. The Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) results page showed the two lists on 2,169,835 and 1,633,067 votes at 07:15 Serbian time (06:15 UK time, GMT), with 8,016 of 8,392 polling stations processed; these partial figures come before the preliminary and final results that RIK adopts formally.
This guide is for readers in Great Britain and is not advice. Polls were open from 07:00 to 20:00 Serbian time (06:00 to 19:00 UK time, GMT), RIK said at its first press conference on polling day.
RIK's count on Monday morning
RIK posts results station by station as they are processed, its president Vladimir Dimitrijević said on election night (RIK). At 07:15 its page showed (names translated):
- Turnout: 4,146,045 voters, 68.76% of those registered at the processed stations; the full roll has 6,451,292 voters.
- Ballots: 4,089,642 valid, 53,830 invalid.
- No. 3, Student List: Students Win: 2,169,835 votes, 52.37%.
- No. 1, Aleksandar Vučić: United Serbia: 1,633,067 votes, 39.41%.
- No. 2, Ivica Dačić's Factor of Stability list: 90,726 votes, 2.19%.
- The other 15 lists had under 1% each, among them Authentic Right (36,855), the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (34,528), Rasim Ljajić's Humane (20,176) and European Serbia (11,630).
RIK's percentages divide by all ballots in the boxes, invalid ones included. Counting valid votes only, as the versus share and margin predictions do, the Student List had 53.06% and United Serbia 39.93%.
From votes to 250 seats
Seats go only to lists with at least 3% of the voters who voted (Article 128 of the election law). On RIK's count that was two lists, the Student List and United Serbia; Ivica Dačić's list came next with 2.19%. National minority lists are exempt, and below 3% their quotients are raised by 35% (Article 140). Seats are then shared by the D'Hondt method, dividing each list's votes by 1, 2, 3 and so on and taking the 250 largest results (Article 129). RIK has published no seat numbers; they become official with its total report (Article 121).
The 23 predictions after the vote
In our own words: consistent reporting from reliable outlets settles them, with RIK's official results deciding any doubt, and the turnout prediction uses RIK alone. Votes stay with the list that received them, whatever alliances form later. Without a definite result by 11:59 pm New York time on 31 March 2027 (04:59 UK time, BST, on Thursday 1 April 2027), each falls back to a fixed answer, which is why some titles name that date (what market resolution means). Statuses are as at 06:18 UK time.
- Most seats. The most seats prediction ranks lists by seats, then valid votes, then the alphabet (settled). RIK's count has the Student List ahead on votes; seats are not yet allocated.
- United Serbia's share. How much of the vote will Vučić's United Serbia get? has six bands of valid-vote share, from below 35% to 55% or more, and a share on a dividing line counts in the higher band (open). On RIK's partial count it stood at 39.93%, so close to the 40% line that only the final figures can place it.
- Student List's share. Six predictions cover bands of valid votes: under 30%, 30 to under 35%, 35 to under 40%, 40 to under 45%, 45 to under 50% and 50% or more; all six show as settled. Its share on RIK's partial count was 53.06%.
- Winning margin. Eight predictions measure the leader's margin over second place in points of valid votes: United Serbia first by under 2 (open), 2 to under 5 (settled), 5 to under 10 (open) or 10 or more (settled), or the Student List first by under 2 (settled), 2 to under 5 (open), 5 to under 10 (open) or 10 or more (open). On RIK's partial count the Student List led by about 13.1 points.
- Turnout. What share of Serbian voters will turn out? uses RIK's official turnout, votes cast over registered voters, in five bands from below 58% to 70% or above (open). RIK's partial 68.76% falls in the 66% to below 70% band; the official figure comes with the final results.
- Third place. Six predictions use the same ranking: European Serbia (settled), Authentic Right (settled), Ivica Dačić's list (settled), the Hungarian alliance (open), Rasim Ljajić's Humane (open) and the Student List (settled). Third place depends on seats RIK has not yet allocated; under 3%, only national minority lists can win seats.
Dates to watch, in UK time
- Monday 26 October, 14:00 (GMT): the election observation mission of the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) presents and publishes its preliminary findings at a press conference at 15:00 Belgrade time, its mission page says; none was out when we checked on Monday morning.
- Monday 26 October, 19:00: the cut-off for RIK's preliminary results, which it adopts at a session for the stations processed within 24 hours of the close (Article 123).
- By Thursday 29 October, 19:00: local commissions' summary reports are due, 96 hours after the close (Article 119); appeals and repeat voting push this back.
- Then: RIK has 96 hours from the last summary report to publish its total report, seats included; objections may follow within 72 hours (Article 121). In 2023 it came on 12 January 2024, after repeat voting at 43 stations (RIK).
- Within ten days of that report: seats pass to candidates in list order (Article 130).
- Within 30 days of the final results: the outgoing Speaker convenes the new Assembly, which is constituted once two thirds of the mandates are confirmed (Article 101 of the Constitution).
- A government: the President proposes a prime minister after consulting the elected lists, a government needs a majority of all 250 MPs (Article 127), and if none is elected within 90 days of the Assembly's constitution, it is dissolved and new elections are called (Article 109).
