Kimi K4 Release Date: K3.1 Pro Launched, No K4 Date Yet
Moonshot's newest model, Kimi K3.1 Pro, is dated 24 October 2026, and no Kimi K4 date is named. What counts as K4 and how the versus predictions settle.
versus Editorial · 27 September 2026
As of 25 October 2026 Moonshot AI has not announced Kimi K4 or a date for it, and its newest model is Kimi K3.1 Pro, which Moonshot dates 24 October 2026 and describes as a post-trained version of Kimi K3. At 06:11 UK time on 25 October 2026 the versus pages showed 0.3p for a Kimi K4 release by 31 October 2026, 9.5p for one by 31 December 2026 and 26.1p for Yes on a launch by 31 March 2027. A price is the market's estimate of a chance between 0p and 100p: a winning contract settles at 100p and a losing one at 0p, so you can lose the whole amount you put into a position.
Two predictions ask about it. When will Kimi K4 come out? has two answers, 31 October 2026 and 31 December 2026. Will Moonshot launch Kimi K4 by 31 Mar 2027? is a yes or no question with a later deadline. Both were still open on the morning of 25 October 2026.
Moonshot's newest release: Kimi K3.1 Pro
Kimi is the family of AI models made by Moonshot AI. The launch post for Kimi K3.1 Pro calls it the first model in a new K3.1 series and a post-trained version of Kimi K3. It says K3.1 Pro and a faster K3.1 Pro Highspeed were available that day on Kimi.ai, Kimi Work, Kimi Code and the Kimi API, and that the full model weights will be released by 4 November 2026. Moonshot's research page dates the post 24 October 2026 and lists it above Kimi K3, dated 16 July 2026.
The model list in Moonshot's developer documentation now puts K3.1 Pro first, calls it Kimi's most capable flagship to date and describes Kimi K3 as the previous-generation flagship, with Kimi K2.7 Code and Kimi K2.6 also listed. The Kimi K3 launch post describes a model of 2.8 trillion parameters built on two architectural updates and measures its gains in scaling efficiency against Kimi K2. None of the Moonshot pages we opened on 25 October 2026, its home page included, mentions a Kimi K4.
Does Kimi K3.1 Pro count as Kimi K4?
On a plain reading of both rule texts, no. Both count a Kimi K4, a K4.0 or any other member of the K4 family, and a model accepted as Moonshot's new flagship or as the follow-up to Kimi K3, but only if it is the same kind of step up as K2 to K3. Both set aside in-between versions, with a Kimi K3.5 as the example.
Moonshot does call K3.1 Pro its most capable flagship, and its model list now calls K3 the previous-generation flagship. The rules tie a new flagship to a step like the one from K2 to K3, though. Moonshot describes K3.1 Pro as a post-trained version of K3, and its K3.1 number marks an in-between version, as a K3.5 would. Each prediction names Moonshot's official information as the deciding source, with consistent reports from reputable news outlets as a check.
Anyone must be able to use a qualifying model: an open beta or a waitlist anyone can join counts, a closed beta or private access does not. Moonshot has to announce it as available to everyone, or make it usable and clearly labelled on its official website, and a wrong label or placeholder name does not count.
How far apart Moonshot's releases have been
The research page gives a date for each main step in the Kimi K series: Kimi K1.5 on 20 January 2025, Kimi K2 on 11 July 2025, Kimi K2 Thinking on 6 November 2025, Kimi K2.5 on 27 January 2026, Kimi K2.6 on 20 April 2026, Kimi K3 on 16 July 2026 and Kimi K3.1 Pro on 24 October 2026. The gaps were 172, 118, 82, 83, 87 and 100 days. The step from K2 to K3, the last change of whole number, took 370 days, with K2 Thinking, K2.5 and K2.6 in between.
On 25 October, 101 days have passed since Kimi K3. The deadlines of 31 October 2026, 31 December 2026 and 31 March 2027 fall 107, 168 and 258 days after it, and a gap as long as the one from K2 to K3 would end on 21 July 2027. That is arithmetic on past dates, not a schedule, and the next gap could be shorter or longer.
Cut-offs in UK time
The answers to the first prediction are deadlines, so more than one can be right: a qualifying release by the first cut-off would make both right, and one between the two cut-offs only the later one. Each cut-off is 05:59 Central European time on the next day, which is 04:59 UK time (GMT, after the clocks went back on 25 October) on 1 November 2026 and on 1 January 2027. Its listed end is 00:00 UK time (GMT) on 31 December 2026, so check its page for the exact times.
The second prediction asks one yes or no question with a cut-off of 11:59 pm Eastern Time on 31 March 2027, which is 04:59 UK time (BST, after the UK clocks go forward on 28 March) on 1 April 2027. A qualifying release by then settles Yes at 100p, and without one Yes settles at 0p.
Dates and signals to watch
- Any day: a launch post on Moonshot's research page, a new entry in its model list or a new Kimi repository on Hugging Face. A Kimi K4 that anyone can use would count; a further K3.1 model or a K3.5 would not.
- 31 October and 1 November 2026: the first cut-off, at 04:59 UK time (GMT) on 1 November. Without a qualifying release by then, the 31 October answer would settle at 0p and the 31 December answer would stay open.
- By 4 November 2026: Moonshot's date for the full K3.1 Pro weights. Publishing them would not turn K3.1 Pro into a K4.
- 31 December 2026 and 1 January 2027: the second cut-off. Without a qualifying release by 04:59 UK time (GMT) on 1 January, both answers of the first prediction would settle at 0p.
- 31 March and 1 April 2027: the cut-off of the yes or no prediction, at 04:59 UK time (BST) on 1 April.
