GLM 5.4 Release Date: What Z.ai Has Said and How It Settles
When will GLM 5.4 come out? Z.ai has named no date. Its launch history, what counts as a release and how the prediction on versus settles.
versus Editorial · 7 October 2026
As of 30 October 2026, GLM 5.4 is not out and no Z.ai page we checked gives it a date: the newest entry in Z.ai's release notes is still GLM-5.3-Flash, dated 26 August 2026. On versus, When does GLM 5.4 or a newer Z.ai model come out? showed 8.8p for its last date, 31 October, at 06:56 UK time on 30 October 2026. In plain terms, the market then put at 8.8% the chance that a qualifying model goes public before the prediction ends at 03:59 UK time (GMT) on Sunday 1 November 2026.
Z.ai's newest flagship is still GLM-5.3, launched on 14 August 2026 according to its launch post. GLM-Legal, a legal model Z.ai announced on 12 October, does not count, as explained below. A price is the market's probability estimate between 0p and 100p: a winning contract settles at 100p and a losing one at 0p, so you can lose the whole amount you put into a position. This guide is for readers in Great Britain.
What Z.ai has said about its next model
GLM is the model family from Z.ai, which also uses the name Zhipu AI. Among the pages we checked on 30 October 2026, the only mention of a next model comes from the launch post for GLM-5.3-Flash, dated 26 August 2026. Z.ai writes there that it is scaling the recipe behind that model to larger models and that the lessons from building it are already shaping its "next frontier model". The post gives no name, no version number and no date.
Since our update of 7 October, Z.ai has announced GLM-Legal. Its launch post, dated 12 October 2026, presents a model for legal work built on GLM-5.3-Flash. The GLM-5.3-Flash developer guide lists it as GLM-5.3-FlashX-Legal and says API access goes to selected enterprise customers who apply.
None of these Z.ai pages, opened on 30 October 2026, mentions GLM 5.4 or gives a dated roadmap:
- The release notes: no entry after 26 August 2026, and none for GLM-Legal.
- The model overview: its latest models are still GLM-5.3, labelled the flagship, and GLM-5.3-Flash. Further down it lists GLM-5.3-FlashX, described as running at 200 tokens a second, and GLM-5.3-FlashX-Legal.
- The zai-org organisation on Hugging Face: no model repository newer than those for GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3-Flash, created on 25 August 2026.
- The GLM-5 repository on GitHub: its introduction leads with GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3-Flash.
- The Z.ai chat site: it describes its assistant as powered by GLM-5.3-Flash.
How Z.ai has spaced its flagship launches
Z.ai dates each launch post on its blog. The flagship launches since July 2025, plus GLM-5.3-Flash and GLM-Legal, are:
- GLM-4.5: 28 July 2025
- GLM-4.6: 30 September 2025
- GLM-4.7: 22 December 2025
- GLM-5: 12 February 2026
- GLM-5.1: 7 April 2026
- GLM-5.2: 16 June 2026
- GLM-5.3: 14 August 2026 (the release notes list it under 18 August)
- GLM-5.3-Flash: 26 August 2026 (a separate model, listed beside GLM-5.3)
- GLM-Legal: 12 October 2026 (a legal model built on GLM-5.3-Flash)
Counting from one flagship launch to the next, the six gaps were 64, 83, 52, 54, 70 and 59 days. On 30 October, 77 days have passed since 14 August, more than five of those gaps; only the 83 days from GLM-4.6 to GLM-4.7 were longer. 31 October is day 78, and the end, early on 1 November, falls on day 79. That is arithmetic on past dates, not a schedule or a forecast.
How the prediction settles
Every market on versus names the source that settles it before you trade. Here it is Z.ai's own announcements and pages, with news coverage as a cross-check. Each answer is a date: a contract on it settles at 100p if a qualifying model reaches the public by then, and at 0p if not. The rules count a release like this:
- The model. It belongs to the main GLM line, has GLM in its name and carries a version number above 5.3. Skipped numbers are fine, so a GLM-5.5 or a GLM-6 would count. A model numbered 5.3 or lower does not, and nor does a spin-off that is not presented as the next flagship.
- Newly public. It reaches the public after the prediction was created on 28 August 2026. A later stage of a model that was already public by then does not count: the open weights of GLM-5.3 are an example.
- Open to anyone. An open beta or a waitlist anyone can join counts. Access limited to selected testers does not.
- Clear evidence. Z.ai announces it as open to the public, or it is usable and clearly labelled on Z.ai's official website. A page that names a version nobody can actually use does not count.
GLM-Legal fails two of these tests: under its docs name, GLM-5.3-FlashX-Legal, it carries 5.3 and is a legal spin-off of GLM-5.3-Flash rather than the next flagship, and the API access Z.ai describes is by application for selected enterprise customers, not open to anyone. GLM-5.3-FlashX also carries 5.3, so neither counts for any of the three dates.
15 September and 30 September both passed without a qualifying release, so 31 October is the only date still in play. The prediction lists its end as 03:59 UTC on Sunday 1 November 2026: 03:59 in the UK, on GMT since the clocks went back on 25 October, and 11:59 pm on Saturday 31 October in New York. A qualifying release before then would make 31 October right; without one, none of the three dates is right.
What to watch until 1 November
Every flagship since GLM-4.6 got a dated launch post on Z.ai's blog and an entry in the release notes on the same day, except GLM-5.3, whose entry came four days after its post.
- Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October 2026: a launch post on the blog, a new entry in the release notes or a new model repository under zai-org on Hugging Face, for a main GLM model numbered above 5.3. If anyone can use it before the end, the 31 October answer would be right. On 30 October, the addresses docs.z.ai/guides/llm/glm-5.4 and z.ai/blog/glm-5.4 both led to a "not found" page.
- Any time before the end: another 5.3 variant such as FlashX or GLM-Legal, a test under a code name (Z.ai tested GLM-5.3-Flash as ox-alpha before its launch), a closed preview or access by application would not count.
- Sunday 1 November 2026, 03:59 GMT: the prediction ends. A launch after that counts for none of the three answers.

Frequently asked questions
Is GLM 5.4 out yet?
No. As of 30 October 2026 it appears in none of Z.ai's release notes, documentation, Hugging Face model repositories or GLM-5 repository on GitHub, nor in the blog posts we checked, and GLM-5.3 is still the flagship in Z.ai's model overview.
What is the latest GLM model?
Z.ai's model overview still names GLM-5.3, launched on 14 August 2026, and GLM-5.3-Flash, dated 26 August 2026, as its latest models, with GLM-5.3 as the flagship.
Does GLM-Legal count as GLM 5.4?
No. Z.ai's docs name it GLM-5.3-FlashX-Legal, a legal model built on GLM-5.3-Flash with API access only for selected enterprise customers who apply. The prediction needs a main GLM model numbered above 5.3 that anyone can use.
Will the next Z.ai model be called GLM 5.4?
Z.ai has not said. Its last four flagships went up in steps of 0.1, but the prediction counts any main GLM model numbered above 5.3, such as a GLM-5.5 or a GLM-6.
