versus Editorial · 16 October 2026
Slovakia's local elections of Saturday 24 October 2026 have results: the Statistical Office's results portal marks Matúš Vallo as elected mayor of Bratislava with 64.36% of valid votes and Ladislav Lörinc as elected mayor of Košice with 39.89%, and its tables for the eight governor races give the most valid votes to Juraj Droba (Bratislava), Jozef Viskupič (Trnava), Jaroslav Baška (Trenčín), Branislav Becík (Nitra), Erika Jurinová (Žilina), Ondrej Lunter (Banská Bystrica), Milan Majerský (Prešov) and Rastislav Trnka (Košice). At 06:02 UK time (GMT) on Sunday 25 October 2026, versus showed its Bratislava region prediction as settled, while its 15 other predictions on this vote still showed as live, although their end date, 03:59 UK time that morning, had passed.
This guide is for readers in Great Britain, and the Slovak vote is a foreign election. The figures below cover all 16 races versus has a prediction on, as the portal showed them early on 25 October: its municipal pages were last modified at 06:50 Slovak time (CET), 05:50 UK time (GMT), and its governors' page at 03:50 Slovak time, 02:50 UK time.
Eight city mayors, as the portal marks them
On the portal's results in communes page, each mayor's table notes "elected" beside the winner and an X beside a candidate who withdrew or was withdrawn; such a name stays on the ballot but is disregarded (Act No. 180/2014, sections 174 and 179).
- Bratislava. Matúš Vallo (Team Bratislava, Progresívne Slovensko, SaS, Demokrati) is elected with 121,846 votes, 64.36%, ahead of the independent Jozef Ráž on 32.32%. Martin Winkler and Miroslav Heredoš carry an X, and Dana Čahojová, one of the seven answers to Who will be Bratislava's next mayor?, is not on the official table.
- Košice. Ladislav Lörinc (Košická strana) is elected with 27,364 votes, 39.89%, ahead of Jaroslav Polaček on 21.52%; a different candidate, Ladislav Lörincz, took 2.03%. The Košice prediction lists six of the eight names.
- Banská Bystrica. Ján Nosko (independent) is elected with 12,629 votes, 46.78%, ahead of Diana Javorčíková on 42.94%. Tomáš Sobota, an answer to this prediction, carries an X.
- Prešov. František Oľha (Progresívne Slovensko, Demokrati, DS-ODS) is elected with 12,125 votes, 40.69%; five of the six names are answers to this prediction.
- Žilina. Peter Fiabáne (independent) is elected with 11,854 votes, 41.22%; five of the eight names are answers to this prediction.
- Trnava. Eva Nemčovská (independent) is elected with 13,411 votes, 60.47%. Ľubica Horváthová, an answer to this prediction, carries an X.
- Martin. Michal Uherčík (backed by six parties, including SaS and KDH) is elected with 6,546 votes, 39.06%, ahead of Milan Ftorek on 21.64%. All nine names are answers to this prediction, and Marek Belák carries an X.
- Trenčín. Ján Forgáč (independent) is elected with 12,413 votes, 69.17%. The table has four names; Anton Kysel, the fifth answer to this prediction, is not among them.
The governor races, by valid votes
The portal's Elections of Presidents page, its name for the governor races, lists valid votes and shares only, with no "elected" note. Slovak law elects the candidate with the most valid votes (Act No. 180/2014, section 157).
- Bratislava region: Juraj Droba 70.96% of valid votes, Rastislav Gajarský 11.54% (prediction, shown as settled).
- Trnava region: Jozef Viskupič 54.04%, József Berényi 20.86%, Peter Hambálek 11.67% (prediction).
- Trenčín region: Jaroslav Baška 57.44%, Natália Svítková 39.02% (prediction).
- Nitra region: Branislav Becík 50.47%, Henrich Varga 28.86%, Tibor Csenger 10.40% (prediction).
- Žilina region: Erika Jurinová 52.06%, Igor Choma 25.80%, Martin Kapitulík 12.65%; Anna Belousovová and Adam Lučanský, both answers, carry an X (prediction).
- Banská Bystrica region: Ondrej Lunter, an independent, 64.81%, Miroslav Suja 14.99%; the third answer, Roman Malatinec, had 5.31% (prediction).
- Prešov region: Milan Majerský 48.77%, Milan Mazurek 35.18%, Samuel Migaľ 6.05%; Judita Laššáková, an answer, carries an X (prediction).
- Košice region: the closest governor race, with Rastislav Trnka, an independent, on 76,421 (32.00%) and Marián Porvažník on 73,304 (30.70%), 3,117 votes apart; Igor Šimko had 24.15% (prediction).
Turnout and the count
The municipal summary results, stamped 06:40 Slovak time (05:40 UK time) on 25 October, showed approved results for 2,919 of the 2,921 communes where elections were held and a turnout of 48.47%; the cities of Bratislava and Košice are shown separately, outside those totals. The regional summary, stamped 03:40 Slovak time (02:40 UK time), had all 6,029 polling districts approved and a turnout of 46.56%.
The law set voting hours of 7am to 8pm Slovak time on 24 October, 06:00 to 19:00 UK time (BST), and there was one round only: a tie for mayor or governor would have meant a new election, not a runoff (Act No. 180/2014, sections 149, 181, 189 and 195a).
How the 16 predictions settle
All 16 ask who wins the race held on 24 October 2026; a stand-in, whether interim or caretaker, never counts (what market resolution means). Consistent coverage by reliable outlets comes first; if reports clash or leave doubt, official Slovak results decide; 15 of the 16 rules name the Statistical Office, and four give its site, volby.statistics.sk. Four rules, for the Bratislava and Košice mayors and the Nitra and Košice regions, make every listed name lose if someone not on the list wins (how to verify market rules). Each rule also carries a long stop: if no definite result is known by 11:59pm Eastern time on 31 March 2027, 04:59 UK time (BST) on Thursday 1 April 2027, no listed name wins.
At 06:02 UK time on 25 October, versus showed only the Bratislava region prediction as settled (since 04:25 UK time). The end date of all 16 was 03:59 UK time (04:59 in Slovakia), and the official results above are public. Every candidate marked elected, and every candidate with the most governor votes, is among the answers of the matching prediction.
What happens next
The portal shows results approved by the electoral commissions. The law adds a formal step: the State Commission for Elections and Control of Financing of Political Parties publishes the overall results of both elections together once the record of the municipal result is drawn up and signed (Act No. 180/2014, section 195d).
- New mayors: under the general municipal law, the outgoing mayor calls the new council's first sitting for a date within 30 days of the vote, and the old term ends when the new mayor takes the oath (Act No. 369/1990, sections 12 and 13).
- New governors: the outgoing governor calls the new regional assembly's first sitting within 30 days of the declaration of results and chairs it until the new governor's oath, which ends the old term (Act No. 302/2001, sections 14 and 16).
- Challenges: if the Supreme Administrative Court declares an election invalid or annuls a result, the Speaker of parliament calls a new one (Act No. 180/2014, sections 149 and 181).
